Reading the prophecy of Jesus and His suffering in Isaiah. It was a profound reminder of what Jesus paid for us.
Isaiah 52:14
14 Just as there were many who were appalled at him—
his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man
and his form marred beyond human likeness—
Isaiah 53:3-5
3 He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.
Like one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows,
yet we considered him stricken by God,
smitten by him, and afflicted.
But why such suffering?
We are into cheap grace. We think a holy God can just ignore sin.
We have no sense of justice and the deserved judgement, deserved, all of us deserved.
Why, oh God, must you have been tormented so?
Isaiah 53:5
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
For our transgressions, our iniquity.
So we may have peace and be healed.
Because we have gone astray because we turned to our own way.
Isaiah 53:6
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
Why did Christ suffer so?
Because God put on Him all our sins.
It is incredible that 700 years before Christ came to earth, God had Isaiah write down what, how and why the Messiah, the Christ, must suffer and die.
For our wounds, for our peace, for our waywardness, for our sins.
Thank you, Jesus, for suffering and dying for us.
We place our faith in You—our forgiveness upon your sacrifice for us.
By your wounds we are healed.
