Is he withholding His mercy? Are we reaping what we sow?
I wonder how much of my life is spent unaware of all the mercy God continually pours into my life. He was keeping me from the thousands of consequences I fully deserve.
Yet, what is my response when some of them come, and consequences arrive at my door?
Jeremiah acknowledges all the destruction of Jerusalem during his time was well deserved.
Lamentations 3:39-42
should any living man complain
when punished for his sins?
40 Let us examine our ways and test them,
and let us return to the Lord.
41 Let us lift up our hearts and our hands
to God in heaven, and say:
42 “We have sinned and rebelled
God is not evil. He doesn’t withhold His mercy out of spite. He had spent years upon years calling out to Israel to follow Him, but they would not come.
He allowed consequences to come, but He continues to desire their return to Him and to what is true.
What about us? Are we dealing with deserved consequences? Do we blame God for not giving us more mercy? Have we been living in His mercy and taking it for granted?
Maybe this is our opportunity to turn to Him. Acknowledge our sin and confess it to Him.
Let’s follow our great King and ask Him for mercy and grace.
