God has a way of turning hatred, deceit, and traps against those who would plot them.
Haman had hated and despised Mordechai because he would not bow in his presence.
He then plotted and got the king to sign an edict to kill and plunder every Jew in the Medo-Persian Empire. Because Jews only bowed to God.
The king was tricked into this. Now, with the date of their destruction fast approaching, Haman resented Mordechai even more, and his friends said to build a gallows 75 feet high and hang him. As he goes to get permission from the king to do so, the king asks what you should do for someone you seek to honour. Haman says to have a noble go before the city, leading him on the king’s horse and in a king’s robe, proclaiming how great he is.
The king tells Haman to do so for Mordechai before Haman can ask the king to hang Mordechai. Haman is parading Mordechai through the streets and is demoralized but gaining hope from the Queen’s invitation to a special banquet. He goes, and King asks her what is it that you want? She says my life and the life of my people.
The King, overwhelmed with rage, says who would do such a thing… Haman!
Esther 7:9-10
“A gallows seventy-five feet high stands by Haman’s house. He had it made for Mordecai, who spoke up to help the king.”
The king said, “Hang him on it!” 10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai.
Bitterness, hatred, jealousy, envy, and plotting and scheming for power over others or for their destruction.
God sees it all and can make it right. He can turn it all against those who do such things.
Haman thought he was going to have his day and he was hung on his own gallows.
There is a lot for us to consider here.
Father, help us to trust you and to put away these evil things and love others as ourselves. Help us to trust you when others plot against us, knowing you are just and that you are able.
