Who Do We Look to for Affirmation of Our Beliefs and Actions?
Jesus was frustrated with the religious leaders of His day. They focused on the Bible, but they didn’t believe what it said.
John 5:44How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?
Jesus points out that these men were more interested in the approval of each other than in the approval of God.
Wow!
That hit me this morning. Am I blinded by the culture and by those around me and their approval that I am not seeing, hearing, or understanding what God plainly says in His word?
Whose approval am I seeking? It might well change the way I am reading/listening to God’s words.
In Jesus’ time, it was hard to accept the plain teaching of the Bible over the current cultural approval of others. Today, we face the same challenge.
Whose approval are we looking for?
Father, help me seek You and believe what You say, even if I lose the praise of others.
