Jesus Will Raise the Dead

In John chapter 5, Jesus faces the religious leaders’ anger for calling God His Father, a clear assertion of His divinity. Jesus explains that their concern over His Sabbath work misses the point; He and the Father are always working. He further reveals that the Father has given Him all authority to judge so that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father.

Jesus then speaks of a future event:

John 5:28-29

“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.”

This passage reminds us that Jesus holds authority over life and death. One day, all will stand before Him for judgment. The choice is clear: acknowledge Jesus now for eternal life or face eternal judgment by denying Him.

Jesus, we acknowledge You as God’s Son, sent to redeem us from sin and restore all things. Through Your death and resurrection, we have life. With the authority given by the Father, You will judge all for eternity, destroy this broken world, and create a new heaven and new earth where sin and death are no more. We long for this renewal and pray for those around us to place their faith in You today.

Jesus will raise all the dead. Which way will we be raised?
