How Do We Respond to the Victories God Brings Into Our Lives? — 2 Chronicles 15:12, 15, 16, 19
King Asa and all the people of Judah responded with worship and repentance. In fact, full-out revival! They had trusted God in the battle, but they needed to clean up their daily lives. They needed to get rid of the idols in their lives, and they needed to rebuild their commitment to God.
2 Chronicles 15:12 (NIV84) “They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.
They removed the old influences that kept them from a total commitment to God.”
2 Chronicles 15:16 (NIV84) “King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive Asherah pole. Asa cut the pole down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
They worshipped God. They recommitted themselves entirely to God. They removed the idols and influences, keeping them from completely surrendering to God.”
They were happy to do it!
2 Chronicles 15:15 (NIV84) All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the Lord gave them rest on every side.
God met them, and there was no more war for 20 years.
2 Chronicles 15:19 (NIV84) There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.
Father, may we seek you with all our hearts, and may we commit ourselves fully to you. Father, show us the things in our lives that keep us from you. Please give us the awareness and courage to cut them out of our lives and eliminate them. We commit ourselves anew to you, Lord.
