Have you ever been outnumbered? Overwhelmed? – 2 Chronicles 14:11-12
The things that are in front of you being so much greater than you have strength for?
A great army is attacking King Asa of Judah, a mighty army. Humanly speaking, he was way outnumbered.
What was he to do?
2 Chronicles 14:11 (NIV84) “Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, ‘Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O Lord, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.'”
He entirely put his trust in God. He cries out to God. See, Asa was not looking out solely for himself, but Judah was the very people of God, and they represented God on the earth and stewarded His temple.
Asa appealed to God to not let man prevail against Him.
Look what God did.
2 Chronicles 14:12 (NIV84) “The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled”
We all love the idea of asking God for help and for Him to rescue us.
I wonder, are we in a battle of our own making? Dealing with consequences of our own making or even our sin?
What are we fighting for? Are we defending the name of our God and the people of God? Are we overwhelmed by the enemy? It is here that we can, with Asa, in full confidence, cry out to God and say: “O Lord, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.”
It made me consider my life, my aims, my battles. Am I focused on the things God would have me focused on? Am I representing Him to those around me? Am I loving and protecting His people and His name?
Jesus said, “Seek first the His kingdom and His righteousness, then all these things will be added unto you.”
If my will is aligned with His, I have full confidence in my plea for God to not let man prevail against Him, for my cause is not my own but His.
