God is telling Jeremiah about the destruction that is coming. He details the incredible disaster and judgement. He details why it is coming so Jeremiah can respond to those asking why.
And then you have this:
Jeremiah 17:5-6
This is what the Lord says:
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who depends on flesh for his strength
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.
6 He will be like a bush in the wastelands;
We see that God can curse, and bring judgement. He does to those who place their trust in man.
Yet we find that it is God who brings blessings.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
8 He will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
It is God who can bring blessings, or He can curse or bring judgment. We see here that God is a jealous God and desires our affection, our worship, our trust.
Where do we place our trust? In men? In ourselves? Are we the creators of the universe? Are our names LORD (Jehovah) or Salvation (Jesus)?
Or
Will we place our trust in God, who made all things and is the One who gives us all that we have? Without Him, we would not have or be.
Let’s place our trust in Him and not man. He will give us strength and provision even in the most difficult times.
