Our emotions will mislead us. If we go by our feelings, we can be self-deceived.

We live in a time where feelings matter more than truth. We see people cancel others because they “feel” a certain way. We see people hiding behind their feelings and their fear and anxiety, putting others in a place to either go along with it or be accused of not caring. Thus, emotional manipulation wins out, regardless of what may be true about the situation. Often, people cannot bring the truth in as the feelings are so strong that the truth is repulsive.

Yet, God tells us something about our hearts and our feelings.

Jeremiah 17:9

The heart is deceitful above all things

and beyond cure.

Who can understand it?

Are we trusting our feelings to decide how to act towards others? Or are we trusting God?  not acting in fear, Not acting out of self-protection from what our feelings tell us about our situation? Are we treating others how God would have us treat them? Are we living in truth?

Jeremiah 17:10

10 “I the Lord search the heart

and examine the mind,

to reward a man according to his conduct,

according to what his deeds deserve.”

God will ultimately judge us; let us not trust our deceitful, self-protective, prone to fear and anxious hearts. Let us trust God in our decisions and how we love and treat each other.
