God wants leaders who are not in it for themselves.

God uses the analogy of shepherds and sheep.

Ezekiel 34:2-4

to the shepherds of Israel who only take care of themselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock? 3 You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock. 4 You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick, or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally.

God is seeking leaders who strengthen the weak and seek out those wandering away. He does not want leaders to be harsh. He wants leaders who care for those they lead.

Ezekiel 34:10

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against the shepherds and will hold them accountable for my flock.

Leaders, we may have this season where we think we are in control. We may think we can enjoy all the benefits of leadership, but God will hold each of us accountable if we take advantage.

Let us take care of those in our charge. Let us pursue those who have strayed and protect the weak.

As we care for them, God will take care of us and them.

He is our shepherd, and we are the sheep of His pasture. We will all give an account to God.
