Speaking through the prophet Isaiah, God tells how the people of Israel are towards His prophets and His words to them.
Isaiah 30:10-11
They say to the seers,
“See no more visions!”
and to the prophets,
“Give us no more visions of what is right!
Tell us pleasant things,
prophesy illusions.
11 Leave this way,
get off this path,
and stop confronting us
with the Holy One of Israel!”
Yet, God did not want their harm but their good.
Yes, they would need to change. Yes, they would need to repent of their sins. Yes, they would have to get rid of things they came to depend on.
But.
Isaiah 30:15
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:
“In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength,
but you would have none of it.
God tells them of the judgement coming on them because of their sin.
But what does God really want?
Isaiah 30:18
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;
he rises to show you compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!
Let us stop with our fighting God and His ways. Let us stop looking for other things to replace God in our lives and telling us only what we want to hear.
If we simply surrender to God, we can live without the fight.
Look again at Isaiah 30:15
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:
“In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength,
but you would have none of it.
Repentance and rest.
Quietness and trust.
Salvation. Strength.
I want more of this.
The Lord longs to be gracious to us. Will we let Him?
