Who are we bringing to know Jesus?

After Jesus calls Peter and Andrew to follow Him.

John 1:43 – 44

The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.

I love what Philip does next:

Verse 45

45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

Upon meeting Jesus, he runs and invites Nathaneal, who he knew was asking about the Messiah, to come and see.

This is why my mother named me Philip Nathaniel. At the hospital, when she delivered her ninth child, Nathan Bryant, she was told she had another boy, a twin. N P, Nathan Paul (OT prophet, NT prophet), hmmm P N – oh Philip brought Nathaneal to see Jesus. So, I was named.

But it strikes me in this text that Jesus seeks out Philip to be His disciple, and Philip, knowing Nathaneal is asking about the things of God, seeks out Nathaneal.

It really caused me to ask about my own faith. Jesus says, “Follow me.” Am I seeking out others and inviting them to come and know Jesus?

It is why He called out to the disciples to follow Him, so His disciples would seek out others to bring them to know Him.

May we be like Philip. I wonder who is your Nathaneal today? Who are you inviting to know Jesus?
