So what are we to do while here “under the sun?” — Ecclesiastes 2:24–26
Solomon anquishes over both folly and wisdom, pleasure and work, the gaining of wealth and reputation.
He draws this conclusion.
Ecclesiastes 2:24–26 (NIV84): “A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness.”
Under the sun, our striving to find ultimate fulfillment is limited.
We discover our best go is to please God with our lives.
God has built in simple daily satisfaction for this life under the sun.
Work hard and take in the satisfaction of todays hard work.
Have a meal and rest.
Enjoy each day for the simplicity of what it brings.
Live each day to please God, and you will live a satisfied life, here, under the sun.
I am reminded of Jesus’ words ‘take no thought for tomorrow, for each day has its own trouble.”
Wisdom is great, but the constant striving to secure the completed satisfaction or fulfillment in this life can not be obtained.
Life is to be lived daily, and thus, we are to work hard and enjoy each day as we seek to please God with our lives.
He is the lasting and secured satisfaction.
I place my trust, my hope, and my delight in Him.
