Malachi writes God’s words to the people of Israel. These are the very last words written in the Old Testament.
Malachi 4:6
6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.”
400 years later, we read in Luke 1:17
And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
This amazing account of the miraculous conception and life of John the Baptist. Born to parents who were barren late in their years until an Angel of the Lord meets Zachariah, his father, in the temple to tell him he will have a son and he will be named John.
We know that these prophecies all came true. John set the stage for Jesus calling people to repentance and back to God.
It is striking that the last words of the Old Testament are met with the first event of the New Testament and the fulfillment of this prophecy.
God keeps His word.
