Peace I Leave with YouJohn 14:27-31

Jesus is staring down His departure, fully aware of what it means for His disciples. He’s been pouring out promises—forgiveness, a prepared place, the Holy Spirit’s presence—and now He lands on something they’ll desperately need when He’s gone: peace.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.

Not just any peace—His peace. He doubles down: “I do not give as the world gives.” That’s a gut punch. The world’s peace is flimsy, fleeting, a cheap knockoff. Jesus, the Prince of Peace, is handing them something unshakable, forged in eternity. He’s saying, “This is for you—hold it tight.”

He knows what’s coming. Their world’s about to flip—betrayal, crucifixion, chaos. They’ll watch their friend die. Soon, they’ll be hunted, hated, most of them killed. And it won’t stop there—generations of disciples will face the same fire. It’s like Jesus sees it all unfolding, every blow, every tear, and He pleads, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled or fearful.” He’s not naive; He’s arming them.

John 14:29  I have told you now before it happens so that when it does happen you may believe”

He’s prepping them—when the storm hits, they’ll remember His words and cling to His promise. The enemy’s coming, He warns, flexing his claws, but Jesus has already won. “He has no hold over me,” He declares (v. 30), and His Father—our Father—holds it all.

This is Jesus’ parting shot: It’s going to get brutal. You’ll miss me. The enemy will rage. But don’t let your hearts be troubled: here is My peace—grab it.

My Father and I? We’ve got this. Trust us. Obey us. Rest in us. My peace isn’t just a gift; it’s your anchor. Don’t let go.
