Oh, the deep pain of betrayal — Psalms 12-14, 20-22
How it confuses the mind and destroys the heart.
We find David’s son Absalom working a plan for 4 years against his father’s throne and then rallies an army to take Jerusalem. This after his father forgave him for taking justice into his own hands.
We hear David’s cry:
Psalm 55:12–14 (NIV84)
12 “If an enemy were insulting me,
I could endure it;
if a foe were raising himself against me,
I could hide from him.”
13 “But it is you, a man like myself,
my companion, my close friend,”
14 “with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship
as we walked with the throng at the house of God.”
What is so painful is how others can’t discern the lies.

20 “My companion attacks his friends;
he violates his covenant.”
21 “His speech is smooth as butter,
yet war is in his heart;
his words are more soothing than oil,
yet they are drawn swords.”
What can we do when we are betrayed by someone we love?
Psalm 55:22 (NIV84)
“Cast your cares on the Lord
and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous fall.”
Father, you see, you know, you care. Help, us to place our trust in you.
