Names have meaning.

I am struck by the coming of Jesus and the telling of His arrival by the angels to Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds.

Jesus – Saviour

Matthew 1:22

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins.”

Immanuel – God with us

Matthew 1:23

The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.”

Christ – Messiah – sent one

Luke 2:10-11

“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

We celebrate with the Angels to the shepherds.

Luke 2:14

Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

There is no greater name.

Jesus the Christ is God with us.

Truly, God has shown us His favour by sending Jesus to us.
