Let the Light Shine in the Darkness – 2 Corinthians 3:15-4:6

Paul has just taught about the glory of Jesus and His Spirit within us, a glory far greater than the law on tablets. The Holy Spirit shines through our hearts, surpassing the fading glory Moses veiled, revealing the enduring glory of Christ in us. Yet, a veil keeps many from seeing this glory.

2 Corinthians 3:15-18 (CSB)

“Yet still today, whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts, but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

“When a person turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.” Incredible! This unveiling, the work of the Holy Spirit, brings us into the light—Christ in us, the hope of glory, making us unashamed. What a privilege to know Christ and make Him known!

2 Corinthians 4:1 (CSB)

“Therefore, since we have this ministry because we were shown mercy, we do not give up.”

We have this ministry of shining Christ’s glory to others, having received mercy and forgiveness. So we do not give up. We choose holy lives, coming out of darkness, becoming an open display of truth. Yet, unbelievers remain veiled.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (CSB)

“…the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

We’re not proclaiming ourselves but bringing Christ’s light into a dark, veiled world.

2 Corinthians 4:6 (CSB)

“For God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Christ in us shines through us, bringing light to those around us. We’ve been shown mercy, born again by the Spirit, and now Christ dwells in us, His glory radiating through our lives.

Are we reflecting Christ’s light to the world? Have we abandoned darkness, living holy lives so Christ is glorified through us? Are we persisting, not giving up, remembering that the god of this age blinds unbelievers? Let’s shine brightly, reflect Christ, and recall His mercy, trusting God to use us to bring the light of Christ—His salvation and hope—to the world.
