Leaders, Do We Want God’s Blessings? We Should Learn From Jehoshaphat. — 2 Chronicles 17:3-4, 6-7, 9-10
2 Chronicles 17:3–4, 6 (NIV84) “The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals” “but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel…”
Verse 6: “His heart was devoted to the ways of the Lord; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.”
We see that his heart was devoted to God and His ways.
He not only put God first and sought Him only, but he got rid of the idols and false gods. You know things that take our hearts away from God.
But there is something more he did that brought great blessing to the people he was leading.
He intentionally taught them God’s word.
2 Chronicles 17:7, 9-10 (NIV84) “In the third year of his reign, he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah…”
Verses 9-10: “They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the Lord; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.”
“The fear of the Lord fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not make war with Jehoshaphat.”
He put God first, he got rid of the false gods, and he taught the people God’s word.
God brought blessings from all sides.
May we learn from Jehoshaphat.
