Is God asking you to let go of something you have made a large investment in?

Is God asking you to let go of something you have made a large investment in? Is it hard to let go? As you may wonder, where will I get that back?

We find King Amaziah challenged to give up a large investment.

2 Chronicles 25:7–9 (NIV84):

But a man of God came to him and said, “O king, these troops from Israel must not march with you, for the Lord is not with Israel—not with any of the people of Ephraim. 8 Even if you go and fight courageously in battle, God will overthrow you before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to overthrow.”

To think, though his investment made good sense logically, God would literally work against him.

Amaziah asks what we would ask.

2 Chronicles 25:9a (NIV84):

9 Amaziah asked the man of God, “But what about the hundred talents I paid for these Israelite troops?”

What do I do about this big investment I just made?

2 Chronicles 25:9b (NIV84):

The man of God replied, “The Lord can give you much more than that.”

Who is the One who is the source for all things? Where does our hope come from?

Here, King Amaziah had to make a decision, let go of his large investment, or trust God to go before him.

The king went on to win a great battle.

I know in my life letting go of large investments of time and resources and trusting God to bring a greater return, wow, super hard.

But let us hear again what the prophet said to King Amaziah.

2 Chronicles 25:9b (NIV84):

The man of God replied, “The Lord can give you much more than that.”

As we go to do His work and His will, let’s trust Him with everything, even if He is asking for us to give up all we have worked for.

Lord, lead us in full trust in you.
