When John the Baptist came and reminded people to obey the law. To live by the Truth. People knew they had sinned, so they confessed, repented, and were baptized.

John tells them:

John 1:17

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

The law could not save. The truth is what God wants us to live by. But we all need grace.

John realizes he can bring truth, but grace and truth come through Jesus Christ.

(This is why I named my daughter Alissa Bryant Grace. Alissa, a direvitve of Alathia(truth), middle name Grace.)

When John the Baptist came and reminded people to obey the law, everyone pressed him to see if he was the Christ.

John tells them:

John 1:15-16

He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ” 16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.

Jesus surpasses me. He was from the beginning. He brings grace. One blessing after another.

John could remind people about the law, but only Jesus could bring grace and truth:

John 1:29

Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Only Grace can take away the sins of the world. Jesus paid, by His own blood, for the sins of the whole world. He lived a perfect life and fulfilled the law.

He is the embodiment of Grace and Truth.

As John said: “From the fullness of his grace, we have all received one blessing after another.”

John 1:17

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
