Reading the last days of Jerusalem during its capture and destruction, even the very temple of God was destroyed.
2 Chronicles 36:21
The land enjoyed its sabbath rests; all the time of its desolation it rested, until the seventy years were completed in fulfillment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah.
Not only had the people continually sinned against God by doing detestable things, but they had not obeyed God in giving the land rest. God took the people away, so the land rested for 70 years.
Read what God does;
2 Chronicles 36:22-23
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and to put it in writing:
23 “This is what Cyrus, king of Persia says:
“ ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Anyone of his people among you—may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.’ ”
God moves the heart of the king to allow the return of the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the te, 70, seventy years after its destruction.
So much here to think about, but a couple of big thoughts stand out.
God is in control.
When God asks us to do something, He means it and will carry through with or without us.
So, let’s do what He asks and be part of the blessing of God. Even kings will obey His voice.
