Jesus challenges us not to worry about this life or what we will eat or wear. He tells us life is more important than food and our bodies are more important than clothes.
He reminds us of the obvious in
Matthew 6:27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
Jesus reminds us of how God cares for the birds, and look at how beautifully He has dressed the lily.
Jesus brings to our attention why we should not worry.
“Are you not much more valuable than they?”
“will he not much more clothe you”
Because our Heavenly Father loves and values us, He will care for us.
My favourite thought in scripture is found here in
Matthew 6:32 “and your heavenly Father knows that you need them”
You can hear Jesus saying to us:
Don’t worry—God loves you, knows your needs, and values you more than the lilies and birds He cares for.
Jesus emphatically calls us to trust our Heavenly Father for these things.
He tells us where to put our energies, priorities and concerns.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Focus on His kingdom; make that your priority. Seek His righteousness in your life, and God will take care of your needs.
Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
We don’t have to worry about tomorrow; it is not ours to control, but today is right here, right in front of us, with its own set of challenges. Let’s focus on living out God’s will today—seeking His kingdom in every decision—trust in His love and provision.
“Your Heavenly Father knows that you need these things.”
