I have it all figured out – ah-huh. — Proverbs 3:5–7
This is when we get into the most trouble. We become unteachable. We have worked it all out in our minds. Have we sought God? Have we asked Him? What does His word have to say about my situation?
Proverbs 3:5–7 (NIV84):
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
I am certain Joshua was not logically concluding that marching around a walled city would bring down its walls.
In today’s cultural landminds, we think appeasement and giving over to wrong, making compromises on what is true, will win the day or even win others over.
How do we trust God with all our hearts? How do we lean not on our own understanding? How can we not be wise in our own eyes?
A first step might be to fear God and letting His ways be higher than our ways.
I remember asking a friend this question: Does God have veto power in your life?
Father, would you make my paths straight?
