Self-control. It is a big part of life. — Proverbs 25:16, 20, 27-28
We can often think we need more. But do we really?
Reading in Proverbs this morning and these stood out:
Proverbs 25:16 (NIV84):
16 If you find honey, eat just enough—
too much of it, and you will vomit.
Proverbs 25:27–28 (NIV84): 27 It is not good to eat too much honey,
nor is it honorable to seek one’s own honor.
28 Like a city whose walls are broken down
is a man who lacks self-control.
It seems we will never be satisfied by what we have or what we see.
Proverbs 27:20 (NIV84):
20 Death and Destruction are never satisfied,
and neither are the eyes of man.
So, we must have self-control. Otherwise, we are believing a lie that more of that… will bring more satisfaction in life.
We will be singing like the Rolling Stones – I Can’t Get No…
Father, you are enough and you have given me all I need. May I be satisfied in you.
