Isaiah is writing to a distraught nation of Israel. Babylon has destroyed them, their cities laid waste, and many have been carried off in captivity.
God tells them the future; in fact, He calls out the leader by name:
Isaiah 44:28
I will raise up Cyrus in my righteousness:
I will make all his ways straight.
He will rebuild my city
and set my exiles free,
but not for a price or reward,
says the Lord Almighty
He goes on about Cyrus. See here how God has him rebuild Jerusalem and for no benefit to him.
He tells them to put their trust in Him. He reminds them that He is creator God, and there is no other.
He rebukes the Babylonians and their pride and their sorceries, neither will save them. He even compares their trust in their astrologers and sorcerers and mocks them on how they can not see what is coming.
But God knows what is next.
Isaiah 45:21-22
Who foretold this long ago,
who declared it from the distant past?
Was it not I, the Lord?
And there is no God apart from me,
a righteous God and a Savior;
there is none but me.
22 “Turn to me and be saved,
all you ends of the earth;
for I am God, and there is no other.
We know from history that the Meads did conquer Babylon and that Cyrus did rebuild Jeruselam.
God made what seemed impossible – done!
He can, and He will.
Only God – not only knows – but has the future in His hands.
He foretold it long ago. There is no God apart from Him.
God calls out today:
“Turn to me and be saved,
all you ends of the earth;
for I am God, and there is no other. “
May we look to Him, may we put our trust in Him.
There is no other.
