God does keep His promises both for good and for justice.
The mighty city of Nineveh had outdone themselves in their sin against God. Their murder, sorceries, destruction of other peoples, their adding to their treasures and their self-assurance with their alliances.
God had something to say about all that in the book of Nahum.
Nahum 1:2
The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath.
But God has also made promises to Israel. Though they had suffered at the hands of Nineveh, God offered hope and promise to those who would place their trust in Him.
Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,
We live in a world that is also heading for judgment. One day everyone will have to give an account to God. But there is hope. Hope is found in Jesus, in His death and resurrection.
God has promised that though we are living in difficult times, amongst those who seem to have all the power as they revel against God. He has promised salvation to those who will put their trust in Him.
This was true for Israel. The prophet Nahum tells them.
Nahum 1:15
Look, there on the mountains,
the feet of one who brings good news,
who proclaims peace!
May we, like Nahum, proclaim peace to those around us. May we let those around us know that there is hope. That Christ has come and we can be forgiven and be with God forever.
