What do we do when our leaders do not own their sins?

When they tell people what they want to hear? We may be at a crossroads.

God is speaking through the prophet Jeremiah.

He is talking about judgment coming for Jerusalem and Judah. But why?

Jeremiah 5:30-31

A horrible and shocking thing

has happened in the land:

31 The prophets prophesy lies,

the priests rule by their own authority,

and my people love it this way.

But what will you do in the end?

 God wants forgiveness and restoration, but it only comes from repentance.

But who is listening?

Jeremiah 6:10

To whom can I speak and give warning?

Who will listen to me?

Their ears are closed

so they cannot hear.

The word of the Lord is offensive to them;

they find no pleasure in it.

The leaders act like God is not serious and that everything is ok.

Jeremiah 6:13-15

prophets and priests alike,

all practice deceit.

14 They dress the wound of my people

as though it were not serious.

‘Peace, peace,’ they say,

when there is no peace.

15 Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct?

No, they have no shame at all;

they do not even know how to blush.

Leaders who have no shame. Who don’t know how to blush.

What can we do?

Jeremiah 6:16

This is what the Lord says:

“Stand at the crossroads and look;

ask for the ancient paths,

ask where the good way is, and walk in it,

and you will find rest for your souls.

It may be that those who are supposed to lead us by what God says fail.

But we still have a choice. We may be at a crossroads. We must choose the ancient path, ask for the good way and walk in it.

Then we will find rest for our souls.
