Do we need to be wise like those around us? Do we get our cues from what everyone else thinks and says?
God warns us about listening to and following the ways of those around us.
Jeremiah 10:2-3
Do not learn the ways of the nations
or be terrified by signs in the sky,
though the nations are terrified by them.
3 For the customs of the peoples are worthless;
Why would God say such things? Why is it Him we should take our cues and find our wisdom or fear what He declares we should fear?
Jeremiah 10:6-8
No one is like you, O Lord;
you are great,
and your name is mighty in power.
7 Who should not revere you,
O King of the nations?
This is your due.
Among all the wise men of the nations
and in all their kingdoms,
there is no one like you.
8 They are all senseless and foolish;
Much like the Israelites of old, who felt the pressure to be like the people around them so much that they decided to worship their gods and follow their customs and practices. Even offering their children to the burning bronze arms of Molech.
We, as Christians, can go after the teachings, customs, and fears of this culture in which we find ourselves.
God tells us: “Do not learn their ways.” He reminds us: “No one is like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. “
Let’s revere God, His ways, His wisdom, and fear what He says.
For there is no one like Him. He is the creator of all things and over all things.
