King Nebuchadnezzar had another incredible dream, and he asked all his magicians, enchanters, and counsellors to interpret it; none could, except Daniel.
When Daniel heard the dream, he was greatly disturbed because it told the future of how the king was going to be humbled by God.
Daniel 4:17
The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of men.’
There is so much we could discuss here, especially with elections coming: “The Most High is Sovereign…”
God gives leaders authority and He can give it to anyone He chooses.
Daniel encourages the king to humble himself before God acknowledge his sin and care for the weak as one who must give an account to God.
But Nebuchadnezzar doesn’t heed Daniel’s warning.
Daniel 4:28-31
All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 he said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?”
31 The words were still on his lips when a voice came from heaven, “This is what is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you
Did you hear the thoughts and perspective of King Nebuchadnezzar: “I have built,” “by my mighty power.”
So we read in Daniel 4:33
Daniel 4:33
Immediately, what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled.
We know for seven years that the king has become like a wild animal out of his mind and has been banished from his position.
Daniel 4:34
At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.
Miraculously, he is restored to his throne and returned to his right mind. But when? When was he in his right mind?
I love this clarity: “raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored.”
Today! Right now! We can can be sane. We can actually live in reality. In the truth of how things really are. When we stop thinking we are the center of the universe and look up and acknowledge God for who He is. This is when we are seeing things in our right mind.
Our pride keeps us from looking up, and it keeps us from being sane.
Father, you are the creator of all things, Sovereign over all the universe. To You alone, God Most High, do we submit ourselves? Anything that I have, any influence or power, or anything that I have been able to accomplish is because of You.
We look up and worship you our great King. And we sanely acknowledge that we must give an account for all that You have privileged us to steward.
All praise and honour and glory are yours.
